60 word bio

Toby Micklethwait has lived in Runnymede since 1947 (except for 10 years of residence overseas). He is a widower with one daughter.

Toby read Maths and Law at Cambridge. He worked as a Chartered Accountant in 5 countries. Back in the UK he set up his own successful business.

Toby loves Europe, its countries, its peoples and its languages.

30 words on local issues

Toby says "the council is wasting huge amounts on incinerators and other useless projects; as a result they are having to cut back on essential services like care, drainage, toilets".

100 words on personally important issues

European Union law now takes precedence over UK law.

Any minister can go to Brussels and get a law passed there. Brussels law must be applied in the UK, even if our parliament disagrees. Our parliament now has little power.

So, is there any point in voting? ------ Yes.

There is a party that will restore power to the British parliament and the British people. UKIP will take Britain out of the EU and enter a trading arrangement instead. 22 countries already have such trading arrangements, and so can we.

Runnymede is where our freedoms began, with the Magna Carta.

Let us make Runnymede famous again - by electing one of UKIP's first MPs!

Vision

UKIP has a vision of a country at peace with itself and with the world:

Which is self governing and democratic. Where common sense and freedom of speech prevail. Where we are friendly with foreigners but do not try to accommodate them all here. Where dotty acts of parliament have all been repealed. Where schools, hospitals and police can get on with the job, freed of red tape and targets. Where schools allow everyone a chance to get a superb education. Where business suffers less regulation. Where tax rates are low. Where we put enough money into the army, but cut back the number of wars we start, and only fight those who attack us. Where we don't waste £873 per person per year on EU membership.

The UK Independence Party - Fighting to withdraw Britain from the corrupt, undemocratic, incompetent EU.
